Where has the last 5 years gone. I'll admit there are days I remember how long 5 years can be however most days...they seem to go by far too fast. Caleb has always been his own person and done his own thing. When I was pregnant with him he kept laying on my nerves making it painful to walk and sit and...well, do just about anything. A trip to the Dr and Chiropractor would move him. I enjoyed relief for a few weeks until he would manage to get back in that same position. I ended up going several times before he was born. We should have taken the clue then with how stubborn he was going to be.
I love this picture because he looks so peaceful and for the fact that he is actually sleeping in the bassinet we had. We used it for both Jonathan and Noah and they loved it. I loved it too. We let the boys sleep in our room in this bassinet for the first month and then moved them over to their crib. We still used this though, for naps and things during the day. Well...Caleb did not like it. At all. He was 2 weeks old here, our Doctor was on his way to our house for Caleb's 2 weeks check up. That was the last time he slept in it.
Move ahead to 9 months. Caleb was fairly easy going. He did not like sleeping on the go and we learned quickly that he needs down time. He needs time to just sleep and relax. There were a few times we had too many busy days right in a row and he ended up sick from it. No fevers or anything, he would just get pale and get sick. He has made us realize the virtue in slowing down. He keeps us at a slower pace and we needed that.
And what good what a little brother be then to be a playmate at times and a pain in the rear at other times. Here Noah was trying to pick up his twister game and Caleb wouldn't let him. Noah started dragging him around the house trying to get him off. Noah was frustrated and Caleb had a blast being pulled everywhere. Noah's frustration soon turned to giggles and all three boys got to laughing and made an entire afternoon out of pulling Caleb around. Caleb loves being with his brothers. We were not sure how his age difference would impact his relationship with them but it hasn't. At least for now. Yes there are times both Jonathan and Noah want space from him but for the most part they like having a tag along. And thankfully their friends don't mind yet either.
Caleb's I am up to something face. Of course here he couldn't have been up to too much. However he still has this face. He looks off to the side and smiles. He is a dead give away.
He does a great job on making sure his voice is heard. He will tell his brothers to stop talking, it's his turn. He loves bubble baths and really doesn't like getting his hair wet however he loves to go swimming. He is taking after Noah and is becoming a fish in the water. Ever since he could scoot and became active in playing with toys he has loved cars and trucks and trains. He can play with them for hours and be perfectly happy. And he does a great job at playing with all of them. He has his favorites but when we are home, he gets ALL of his cars out or ALL of his trains out. He really really does not like to be told no. One time he threw this huge tantrum in the store because we wouldn't let him get a toy. The tantrum lasted all morning and into the afternoon when I said the words not yet. He couldn't get the toy yet. Within seconds he was done crying, tantrum over. And he has been that way ever since. Say the words not yet and he gets that means no, not know and is perfectly okay with that. He does a great job at voicing his opinion. I tell people he should be a lawyer or a politician when he gets older because he just doesn't give up. Ever. Along with his solid attitude comes a very sweet boy that loves puzzles. He can do them so quickly its amazing. He is now doing the 100+ piece puzzles. Anything less than that, takes him minutes to complete. Thankfully he loves taking them apart and putting them back together. And recently he got a Lego car that you put together. He loves taking it apart and putting it back.
Caleb loves school. Loves it. He would stay there all day if he could. He loves his teacher. She was both Jonathan and Noah's preschool teacher as well. I don't know what we are going to do next year when Caleb goes to Kindergarten. We have known her for 7 years and she is fantastic. I wish she could just move up with Caleb. In his preschool room there are also 2 Para's. The school and our kids are lucky to have them there to help. I know they have to grow up, but closing this chapter on preschool forever is hard. When Caleb was born he didn't pass his hearing test. He actually never passed it until he was 2 years old. He has had a few set of tubes since then helping him hear and improve in his speech. He still has air coming through his nose but for now we are just working on improving that and his teachers and speech teachers have just been so great. Many people tell us how improved he is and how they can understand what he is saying. I really don't know where we would be without these teachers' help.
I really should include a picture of Caleb with all of the teens. Our boys are fortunate to see ministry up close and personal. Every where we go and take the teens, our boys come too. Some say they have to come but if you ask them, they get to come. And what fantastic teens we have in Topeka. The love on our boys and play with them and include them all the time. Caleb is always asking for one of them to come over and play and he asks about them everyday.
Recently we took a trip to kansas city and toured a model train museum and to say Caleb loved it was an understatement. He squealed with excitement and jumped almost the entire time. Everywhere he looked there was a train and it even had some old fashioned cars. If you asked him, it was the best place on earth!
My boy is growing up.
And now I look at this little boy who doesn't seem so little anymore. He is getting taller and taller. He is getting smarter and funnier. I look at this picture and I think, where did that little baby go? Our little train conductor is growing up.
