Teaching

Some of you may know how serious Jonathan is when it comes to basketball but for those that don't this is for you. Jonathan has a dream, he wants to attend KU and play on their basketball team. His goal is to either get an academic scholarship or athletic scholarship. So he takes school pretty seriously. Cole Aldrich was someone he looked up to a lot while he was at KU and Cole had a high GPA all throughout college. 3.98 I believe! So Heath and I are taking it pretty seriously in making sure we are doing all that we can as parents to help him achieve that goal. We check in with him pretty often to make sure it hasn't changed but it hasn't. He likes to play football and occasionally baseball but his main focus is bball. He is our guy who wakes up a little early before his brothers so he can watch some ESPN, sports center before his brothers wake and want to watch cartoons. He likes reading all of the athlon and lindy magazines and reading up on statistics. And recently he has started thinking about what he wants to be when he grows up. We've been trying to tell our boys, when thinking about what you'd like to do when you grow up, chose something you are passionate about. Something you like because you only have this once chance to do it. So he has been thinking. I think he'd love to go to the NBA but in case it doesn't pan out he has talked about coaching in college or nba or even refereeing in either.

So Jonathan passed on playing football this year and decided to play fall basketball. There are not many places that offer this but Sports Zone does. We have never played there before but decided to try it out. There are 7 other boys on his team and two kids from our youth group are the coach's. They had their first game last night. But before I tell you how it went I want to make sure you know, not ever boy on the team is as serious as Jonathan. For some this is their first time to play. Others, they are trying it out because they really like football and baseball. With that said....we lost. They really tried with all of their hearts. We did make 8 points! Jonathan scored once. We were all a little nervous I think but all in all they did great. We now know what to work on before Friday's game. And so far we really like sports zone, not as much as Upwards but it works for fall. It's really up to the parent's and coach's to keep the league going. You decide practices, team name, jersey color, etc. We like Upwards because of the focus it has on not just the game but Christ. But we can only play thru it in the winter.
